1. What is OpenStack?
OpenStack is a cloud operating system that manages and provisiones huge pools of compute, storage, and networking resources across a datacenter via APIs and common authentication mechanisms.
A dashboard is also offered, which allows administrators to maintain control while empowering users to provision resources via a web interface.
Additional components, in addition to typical infrastructure-as-a-service capability, include orchestration, fault management, and service management, among other services, to ensure that user applications are available at all times.
2. The OpenStack Landscape
OpenStack is divided into services, allowing you to plug and play components to meet your specific requirements. The OpenStack map provides a “at a glance” perspective of the open source environment, allowing you to see where those services fit in and how they can collaborate.

- When new deployers approach OpenStack as a project for the first time, they are faced with a huge and fascinating array of components from which to choose. It’s so large and beautiful that it’s difficult for users to know where to begin, trust that their decisions won’t prohibit them from deploying something useable, and assure that they’ll be able to increase the scope of their OpenStack over time. The goal of this sample configuration is to define a modest set of projects that will allow the deployer to experiment with both stateful and stateless OpenStack uses while also providing features that practically all clouds will require. The intended audience is someone who is new to cloud computing and is testing the waters with a few servers in a basement or back room.
